Acceptance As A Tool Of Overcoming Divorce

No human being is alike. Even twins are different in personality and character. Usually, when you meet someone, the first thing that attracts you to that person is what you lack that the person has. In spite of the fact that you must have something in common with the person you are going out with, you should also be able to identify those things that make a person different. It is the difference that attract you to the person you marry in the first place.

Many marriages break up because of those differences and that is because the people involved never accepted or understood those differences in the first place. If you are aware of your spouse’s differences. It’s accepting those differences that will enable you to desist form any attempt to change your spouse. You can be trapped in a very frustrated marriage if you keep on attempting to change your spouse. In order to cultivate the habit of acceptance, you should be able to do the following;

• Keep an open mind. Without an open mind, you will not be able to wrap yourself around those things that make your spouse different. As time goes on and your spouse changes, the differences may or may not become more pronounced. It is vital that you bear this in mind.

• View the difference as a route to deeper more intimate relationship.

• Realize that you are also different and cut your spouse some slack. Your spouse may also be struggling to accept the difference in you too.

• Draw the line between differences that are acceptable and those that are not. You may want to equate acceptance with complacency but they are two different things.

• Appreciate those things that make your spouse different even if you don’t want to. You will find yourself appreciating them in time.
